The Athlete

The Athlete is designed for those going through their season, as a way to help their body prepare and recover for events, matches, games, and races.

Credentials: CSMS -  Certified Sports Massage Specialist

Education: Crossfunction Sports Massage Academy, Seattle WA

Created specifically for the athlete, their distinct sport, and individual needs - all three are balanced and taken into account each session. The axes of motion of the sport, repetitive movements, dominant hand/foot, injuries past or present, training styles, what segment of the season the athlete is in, these and more are considerations put into the approach and treatment plan.

As the athlete, you have the ability to incorporate Sports Massage into your routine and into your team of trainers / coaches / PTs / Sports Med / other health care professionals. This would allow us to work together and share information and feedback about the results of treatments, areas to focus, gait assessments, and other things to take note of.

It is a way to better enhance the specificity and calculations that go into helping you, the athlete, perform at your optimal best for as long as possible.

Fox & Crow Sports Massage

Pre-Season:

You’re training, having scrimmages, practicing and drilling

~ Treating areas that are acting up or feeling over used

~ Working on recovery and prevention of injuries

During this time while the scoreboard is off, is the best time for us to see how your body responds to new types of treatments:

Cupping, IASTM (scraping), Stretches, KT Tape, etc. This way we can determine if it aids in performance or if we need to make adjustments to our approach while we’re still in pre-season.

Regular & Post Season:

You’re in it now - competitive drive is in gear

Working with the body directly before a match, or even at big events, to help warm muscles, activate fast twitch responses, and wake-up the brain/body connection.

May include: tapotement, percussion, kneading, MET’s or active resistance to activate muscles, application of KT-Tape

Working with the body after a tournament to help the muscles unwind, calm down, recover. Flushing out any residual

lactic acid build-up, or inflammation anywhere. It’s about calming the nervous system to allow the body to recover.

May include: Swedish style movements, lymphatic flush, passive stretching, application of KT-Tape, cupping, IASTM

Off-Season:

You made it! Pressure is off, but next season is already on the horizon.

Ensuring the body has time to fully rehabilitate from the season or any injuries incurred, and taking note of performance and endurance of the last season

We spend this time on:

  • Working specific areas

  • Incorporating a few Swedish style sessions to further aid in a complete rest and recovery,

  • Keep including stretching to maintain mobility and ROM.

  • Create a game plan and strategy for the next season.
